HAMLET OPERATION
Written and Directed by MANUEL ORTIZ
Museum of Memory & Human Rights, Chile, 2017
In this fresh adaptation of Hamlet, the ghost of Hamlet's father appears as a “detenido desaparecido” from the Pinochet dictatorship, pleading with his son for vengeance against his murderer—a university professor who is secretly a former agent of the regime. Driven by the call for justice, Hamlet enlists his friends Horatio and Ophelia to help him. Drawing inspiration from the original tragedy and the ruse of "The Mousetrap," they plan to stage a play at the university, using it as a cover to expose the truth and carry out their revenge. This show was presented at the Museum of Memory & Human Rights. Funded by the Chilean Ministry of Culture.
