New Haven, CT – Co-Artistic Directors Francesca Fernandez McKenzie and Josh Wilder, Managing Director Rachel Shuey, and Associate Artistic Director Rory Pelsue, are proud to announce Yale Cabaret’s 50th anniversary season, which will continue the Cabaret’s long tradition of presenting bold, original theater in its intimate underground venue. The Cab is a place to – BE SEEN, BE HEARD, BE UNDERSTOOD

Yale Cabaret (yalecabaret.org) will open its fall season on September 14th at 217 Park Street with Josh Wilder’s One Big Breath, a new play following the lives of six immigrants as they flee their war-torn homes in search of safety in a foreign land. Josh (Salt Pepper Ketchup) is a Co-Artistic Director of the Yale Cabaret and is developing this magical story of hope and community with an ensemble of Yale School of Drama artists committed to supporting the creative work of the Cab.

Audiences are welcome to experience the temptation and surprise in the second installment of the 50th Season, The Diary of Adam and Eve, the first part of Sheldon Harnick and Jerry Bock’s The Apple Tree. This luscious musical comedy takes us to the land of Biblical temptation, and will be directed by Associate Artistic Director Rory Pelsue (Antony + Cleopatra, Mies Julie, And Tell Sad Stories of the Death of Queens).

We follow The Apple Tree with Sean Devine’s Re:Union, a story about the extremes of political sacrifice set during the Vietnam War. Based on the true story of Norman Morrison, a Quaker man who took his own life in front of the Pentagon as an act of protest, Re:Union weaves together the lives of Norman’s daughter with the government employees who witnessed his terrible suicide by self-immolation. Extensive use of projections will connect audiences to this heart-wrenching commentary on the nature of sacrifice.

The fourth production of the season, This American Wife, is a multimedia performance piece first seen at the Cabaret in the 2017 Satellite Festival. Vicki, Teresa, Luann, and the other outrageous cast members of the “Real Housewives” franchise grace our stage via screens as performers Michael Breslin and Patrick Foley covet their gaudy lives and savvy strategies in deep shame. This American Wife is an investigation into Michael and Patrick’s experiences of obsession, queerness, performance, and the deep desire to run with a fabulous circle of people.
